Welcome and thanks for visiting. I am Peggy Propst and am honored to be running for the State Board of Education in the newly formed 8th Congressional District. I was raised in Longmont, Colorado and attended Colorado State University. Many of you may know me as Peggy Littleton from my time as a public servant in El Paso County prior to my marriage to Joel Propst, a 5th generation Colorado native and long-time resident of Adams County. Joel and I enjoy a number of activities like skiing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, bible study, and musical theater, and between us have eight children and eight grandchildren.
One of my great passions in life is education, and my 40 years of personal experience is extensive and varied. I homeschooled my children for 7 years (until Algebra got the best of me), taught at both charter and private schools, helped found and lead a startup charter school as Board Chair, and served as Vice-Chair of the largest charter school in Colorado. In addition, I acted as Director of the GEAR UP Federal Education Grant for at-risk public schools in Colorado, and from 2004-2010 represented the 5th Congressional District on the Colorado State Board of Education. I subsequently served as a County Commissioner for El Paso County, the most populated county in the state.
My time in education has been challenging, yet invigorating. Even though it would be tempting to retire and pursue my hobbies, my faith and my passion for seeing that all children have opportunity for success has led me to seek public office again to serve, protect, and empower our most valuable asset – our children. I believe that a solid education in the basics is critical to the success of Colorado's future generations and is the great equalizer. As a former State Board of Education member, I am fully aware of the difference a seasoned leader can make. There won’t be any learning curve for me. I can hit the ground running, fighting for the hearts and minds of our children, and advocating for parents!
